The historic Sopchoppy High School is a grant recipient and home to the Sopchoppy Opry and Community Theater. The WPA constructed the original building. The focus of the project was to bring the auditorium area into code compliance, restore and waterproof the exterior envelope, and abate repair and repaint the original wood windows. The structure required stabilization by replacing damaged or rotten wood joists and flooring. A new lobby, gallery, and toilet facilities were create to serve the auditorium as well as a food service area for catering and concessions.

Special Requirements:

· Fire rating wood structure to separate assembly space from the remainder of the building
· Removal of lead paint and asbestos glazing compound from existing wood windows without damaging windows
· Structurally stabilize existing structure with minimal access to crawl space
· Upgrade existing electrical and fire alarm systems to comply with current code requirements
· Rehabilitation of existing spaces into new uses while maintaining the architectural vocabulary of the historic structure
