The historic Sopchoppy High School is a grant recipient and home to the
Sopchoppy Opry and Community Theater. The WPA constructed the original
building. The focus of the project was to bring the auditorium area into
code compliance, restore and waterproof the exterior envelope, and abate
repair and repaint the original wood windows. The structure required
stabilization by replacing damaged or rotten wood joists and flooring. A new
lobby, gallery, and toilet facilities were create to serve the auditorium as
well as a food service area for catering and concessions.
Special Requirements:
· Fire rating wood structure to separate assembly space from the remainder
of the building
· Removal of lead paint and asbestos glazing compound from existing wood
windows without damaging windows
· Structurally stabilize existing structure with minimal access to crawl
space
· Upgrade existing electrical and fire alarm systems to comply with current
code requirements
· Rehabilitation of existing spaces into new uses while maintaining the
architectural vocabulary of the historic structure |
